Lee Roy Selmon's life includes football scholarships, family involvement and involvement in the community. The first is the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on an Eufala farm. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. All three became All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in the entire nation. During his three-year tenure as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him a Scholar-Athlete for the third time in 1975. Selmon was awarded a degree from Education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work in his college days. After college he settled in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers were all-pro three times and started his business career. In 1988, as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being among the top 10 youngsters of the United States. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6-2. While he was in college, he commanded the 1975 team. In 1993, Roy was a part of at the University of South Florida's sports department as assistant director. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame named the player in 1998. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame, in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
