April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball players who have won medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to win her third gold medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross will also be hoping for her very first Olympic medal. It may well be that this is her only opportunity, given that she is 39 years old. She's certain that the top prizes can be achieved. Ross stated via NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and If we play our best, I think we could be able to win gold." Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in the year 1982. Her parents and her sister lived there. Ross went on to play in many activities at Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler she played indoor volleyball along with basketball and running track. She was clearly the best in the game of indoor volleyball. Her volleyball skills also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in the year 2000. Ross is currently playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017, but Ross's beach game was established well before the year. The American has been a major winner in tournaments twice with different partners. One of them has become an icon in the volleyball world. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 to 2013. She also worked with Klineman and herself. Alongside Kessy Ross was an ace on the international stage, claiming the world championship in 2009. This duo went into winning a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor won gold, beating them to it. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she retired. The team won bronze in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross competed for USC Trojans in her college prior to becoming a professional. Her time at the school was an impressive one. In 2000, as a freshman she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year honors and was also an All-American. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to their first Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss in her sophomore, but was still successful in achieving the All-American distinction. Over her final two years as a player, she led the Trojans up to the summit by winning two consecutive national championships. In 2003-04, Ross was named the best female volleyball player at a collegiate level in America according to the Honda Sports Award. Ross was who was a USC international relations student was a star in volleyball. Margie Ross did not see her daughter achieve the heights of beach volleyball. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore at USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. She continues to hold her lost parent near and close.
