In the first season, shippers bid on two shipments that are listed on uShip. This is done in the form of a reverse auction. Bids include a description of the possible risks and potential costs along with the motivations, and abilities. If the time limit has expired for an auction it is awarded to the lowest bidding bidder. The client's discretion however, it might be given to the bidder who has an average rating of higher than past clients. To break any ties feedback ratings are employed. In season 9, shippers receive their loads via an agent for shipping. They aren't aware of the bidding process. Instead they load their cargo, and then try to deliver it without damage before the deadline of the receiver or client. Feedback ratings from clients appear when the loads are delivered. At the end of the episode, the total revenue of each shipper is recorded on screen, and expenses (fuel as well as labor, late-delivery penalties, fines, etc.) To determine the profits or loss the amount of bids is subtracted. Sometimes, shippers offer to transport additional loads during the same journey. The additional amount is then added to their total. The shipper might not be able complete the task due to safety concerns or the size of the load. One shipper might employ an additional person to help with the task. Once the job is done the shippers determine how to split the proceeds. The process of each shipment is disrupted by funny criticisms from other shippers during seasons 1-8.
